India, a world of important contrasts

A word that qualifies India very well is the word "contrasts". At the very first experience, the traveler experiences an immediate change of scenery, this is one of the beauties of the country. Here is Philippe's testimony, during his trip in 2019:

When arriving in Bangalore, it is the smells and colors that immediately mark the traveler’s senses. Everything is intense, perhaps it is also due to the long journey? When our driver takes us from the airport, I immediately notice that the poor rub shoulders with the richest, this can be seen in the brands of cars, in the way the buildings are constructed (fully glazed buildings but with bamboo and string scaffolding) or by seeing women and children carrying loads on building sites while next to them the traffic passes by with as many crowded buses as luxury limousines with wealthy people.

The country is marked by colonial tradition and the castes, even abolished ones, are still felt. It mixes tradition and modernity, kitsch and globalization. There are as many small street-food stores as there are large chains of restaurants. There are as many luxury hotels as there are slums. I experience tenfold emotions, mixing joy, admiration, interest but also modesty and incomprehension. It's the people who helped me understand and integrate this way of life. The children of the Shanti Foundation have greatly contributed to this, certainly impressed at the beginning by my stature and long hair, but eager to know and share from the very first dance steps performed in their company.

I leave India with a certain sadness of having to leave but with the desire to return as soon as possible.
